In an increasingly digital world, one of the main things you need to succeed is a fast internet connection. Have internet, will travel (the web).

It's important to know what your options are forinternet providersin Indianapolis.Over the past year, we've all learned what it's like to have a Zoom call that won't stop buffering.

Here's what you need to know about Indianapolis' internet providers. This is not a full listbuta selection of options that Hoosiers have to surf the web from the comfort of their homes.

AT&T

AT&T provides internet to Indianapolis and the wider Central Indiana area. The company covers the entire state.

Fiber internet, which refers to the internet system thatuses a fiber optic cable to transmit data,is one of the most common internet options.

Megabits per second is a measure of internet bandwidth, or the download speed of your internet connection.

There are several different plans under AT&T.For $35 a month, you can get the T&T Fiber Internet 300 plan, the most basic Wi-Fi coverage. For faster speeds, you can upgrade to theAT&T fiber 500 plan, which costs $45 a month.

Lastly, the AT&T Fiber 1000 plan offers the fastest coverage with 1,000 megabits per second for $60 a month.

If fiber internet is not available in your area,AT&T also offers a modem-router option, called AT&T Internet with an AT&T Gateway (router) included, a physical internet transmitter in the house that ensureshome internet connection. This plan offers 100 mbps for $45 a month, with the ability to power multiple devices at once.

If your internet isn't working and you suspect it might be a widespread issue, you can check by typing your Indiana ZIP code or address into the AT&T outage map.

Comcast/Xfinity

Comcast, known as Xfinity, covers most areas in Indiana.

The "performance starter" package from Xfinity costs $25 per month for 12 monthsfor a connection of up to50 megabits per second. It is good for up to four devices of connection at a time, according to the Xfinity offer website.

For faster speeds, try the 400 mbps plan for $50 a monthfor 12 months, nicknamed the "extreme" plan from Xfinity. You can add up to 11 devices under this network, and this might be a good optionfor gamers.

The last option, a 1,200 mbps-connection, will cost you $60 per month for 12 months. This is the highest-speed option, with connection ideal for unlimited devices, gaming and the fastest possible downloads.

Xfinity also offers the option to add a modem for faster connection for an extra $14 a month. To customize your plan, you can visit the Xfinity website.

Metronet

Metronetprovides home internet service to northern parts of Central Indiana and Hamilton County, including Carmel, Fishers and Noblesville. Metronet will soon begin construction on building a fiber-optic network in Indianapolis, according to their website.

Metronet offers several different coverage plans, under their 100% fiber network. You can get 200 mbps of internet for $49.95 a month, with a wireless router provided by Metronet.

There is also an option for Gigabit Internet, at 1,000 mbps,with Wi-Fi for the whole home, for $74.95 per month, with a wireless router included.

Spectrum

Spectrum offers a variety of internet speeds and connection options at a variety of price points, to a coverage area of much of Central and Southern Indiana.

The first Spectrum plan offers a free internet modem with up to 200mbps connection for $49.99 a month for 12 months. This plan is recommended for two to three people, according to the website.

The faster option, Ultra,offers a connection of upto 400 mbps, recommended for family plans and three to four people. This price is $69.99 a month for 12 months.

Parts of Indiana are also available for one-gigabit internet, for speeds up to 1,000mbps, from $109.99 a month for 12 months. However, prices can vary depending on your location.

Verizon

Version offers both router-modemand 5G connection to customers in the Central Indiana area. Verizon 5G is a new home internet option that uses its wireless network to equip homes with an internet connection.

Parts of Indianapolis qualify for 5G service, the newest and fastest technology from Verizon. To find outif your area qualifies, you can check your availability for this serviceonlineand connect if you are eligible.

If you already have Verizon as your cellphone provider, you can get Verizon 5G home internet for $50 a month with the purchase of a $30 cellphone plan. If you don't have a cellphone plan, the 5G connection will cost $70 a month.

Much of Indiana does not qualify for 5G connection yet;however, you may be eligible for other Verizon internet options, such as digital service line (DSL)or LTE home service.

Centurylink

Centurylink is available in parts of Central Indiana, namely Franklin and Greenwood.

There are several different Centurylink internet plans. With the "Simply Unlimited Internet" plan for $50, youcan get home internet with up to 100 mbps.

The Fiber gigabit plan offers up to 940 mbps for $65 a month, with capability for more than 10 devices and gaming.

You can also bundle internet with your home phone line for $85 a month.
