Best Overall
Herbivore Botanicals Jade Roller
Herbivore Botanicals Nordstrom.com
$30
We always feel like the chicest hippies when using anything from Herbivore Botanicals. Their jade roller is incredibly beautiful, with golden details and dual sides for rolling both the face and under the eyes. It’s technically made with green aventurine rather than jade, but the two stones are similar. Our favorite tidbit about their roller is that the stone is ethically-mined, which is sadly not always true for other jade rollers. Find it at Nordstrom!
2
Best Budget Jade Roller
Daily Concepts Daily Jade Facial Roller
Daily Concepts Ulta.com
$12
This simple jade roller is within everyone’s reach thanks to its low price, and yet, it can work just as well as luxury options. The design is smooth and elegant, with not just two jade rollers (one for face, one for under the eyes), but also a handle made of jade. It’s not the most durable of the bunch, so be careful not to drop it. It’s available at Ulta and Amazon.
3
Best Luxury Jade Roller
Mount Lai De-Puffing Jade Facial Roller
Mount Lai Sephora.com
$34
Mount Lai is our top luxury brand for jade rollers, in part because of their fantastic quality and in part because of the brand’s roots. Founded by Stephanie Zheng, Mount Lai produces jade rollers with the understanding of their importance in Chinese history and traditional medicine. Their classic jade roller is an elegant choice for pros and beginners alike, with a smooth stone that retains a cool touch and glides over the skin gently. Buy it at Sephora!
4
Best Rose Quartz Roller
Skin Gym Rose Quartz Crystal Facial Roller
Skin Gym Nordstrom.com
$28
Using a rose quartz face roller is the ultimate beauty practice since the crystal is known for promoting love and beauty. It’s also an extra gentle and soothing way of benefitting from a daily massage since quartz is even smoother and colder than jade. Since it’s made by Skin Gym, the design is flawless and durable. Get it from Nordstrom!
5
Best Roller & Gua Sha Set
Baimei Jade Roller & Gua Sha Set
Baimei Amazon.com
$16.99
Jade rolling and gua sha are both awesome facial care practices steeped in Chinese culture, so it only makes sense to give both of them a try. This set makes it easy and keeps things affordable. While the jade roller is optimal for daily use, gua sha gives a much more intense massage, so save for when your skin needs a serious pick-me-up. Find this set on Amazon!
6
Best Amethyst Roller
Mount Lai Amethyst Roller
Mount Lai Sephora.com
$44
If you’re a luxury shopper who adores the color purple, you’ll love this gorgeous amethyst facial roller. In practice, amethyst has similar results to rose quartz, but it’s incredibly beautiful, and those who believe in crystal healing say it has all kinds of centering benefits. Since it comes from Mount Lai, it’s exceptionally authentic and well-made, and it even comes in a gorgeous fabric-lined storage box. Order it at Sephora!
7
Best Obsidian Roller
Keys Soulcare Obsidian Facial Roller
Keys Soulcare Ulta.com
$40
If your skin prefers warmth over cold, then this obsidian roller is for you. The obsidian stone is just as smooth and luxurious as quartz, but whereas quartz retains cold temperatures, obsidian hangs on to heat.
This isn’t as great for depuffing the skin, but it’s fantastic for improving the penetration of skincare or for preparing the skin for a purifying mask. Just soak it in some warm water before using it. If you just like that all-black look, that’s fine too, since keeping it in the fridge will make it a cooling option. Shop for it at Ulta!
8
Best Budget Rose Quartz Roller
Inotka Rose Quartz Face Roller
Inotka Amazon.com
$12.99
If you’re on a tight budget but simply in love with the look and feel of rose quartz face rollers, then you’ll want to pick up this design from Inotka. The roller is budget-friendly, but it does a lovely job of cooling and toning the skin. As a bonus, it also comes in one of the prettiest boxes we’ve ever seen, with a little pouch for travel or safekeeping. Use the coupon code INOTKA10 for an extra 10% off on Amazon.
9
Best Sustainable Rose Quartz Roller
BeautyBio Rose Quartz Roller
BeautyBio Nordstrom.com
$60
This super luxurious rose quartz roller is designed with ethically mined quartz from Brazil. It’s a purchasing choice you can feel good about! The product itself has a high-end design, with rose gold detailing and the smoothest feel. It’s double-ended, so you’ll also be able to roll under the eyes. Pick it up at Nordstrom!
10
Best Two-in-One
INC.redible De-Puffing Under Eye Jade Roller
INC.redible Revolve.com
$15
This little innovation combines an amazing eye serum with a jade roller applicator. We absolutely adore this hybridization of modern skincare with old-school methods. The result? De-puffed under eyes that are also thoroughly hydrated, all in one lovely step. The serum itself is massively moisturizing with glycerin, coconut oil, and anti-aging snow mushroom extract. You can buy it at Sephora.
11
Best for Oily Skin
Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Stone Roller
Revlon Amazon.com
$9.98
This strange little roller is actually incredibly cool – especially if you’re on the oily end of the skin spectrum. It’s made out of volcanic rock rather than the typical quartz, so it absorbs oils from the skin. It’s basically a blotting sheet, but in a reusable, face roller form! While it does remove oil, it doesn’t dry out the skin, and it has the same cooling touch as many other face roller designs. You can purchase it from Ulta or Amazon.
12
Best Textured
Mount Lai Massaging Jade Textured Facial Roller
Mount Lai Sephora.com
$34
If your skin isn’t too sensitive, you might enjoy the added acupressure from a textured face roller. The ridged ends give a deeper massage, which can do a slightly more dramatic job of promoting lymphatic drainage and invigorating the skin. You might not want to use it as frequently as a smooth face roller, but every once in a while, it’s a nice little treat for the skin and muscles underneath. Find it at Sephora!
13
Best Double-Duty
Skin Gym Double Duty Smooth & Textured Jade Face Roller
Skin Gym Nordstrom.com
$36
You don’t have to buy two separate jade rollers just because you want the occasional benefits of a textured head. With this design, the smooth end is wonderfully soothing and gentle, while the textured end gives that deeper treatment. Considering it’s a two-in-one, we find that it’s very reasonably priced, with a pretty silver and jade design. You can buy it at Nordstrom.
14
Best Vibrating
Flawless by Finishing Touch Flawless Contour
Flawless by Finishing Touch Amazon.com
$18.99
Face rollers already create a nice massage all on their own, but the addition of vibrations really turns that up a notch. The Flawless Contour face roller comes with both a detachable roller head and a rounded eye press. With the press of a button, the roller starts vibrating gently, which has a very calming effect. Press it against your temples or jawline for some truly deep release. It’s available at Ulta and Amazon.
15
Best Ice Roller
BeautyBio Cryo Skin Icing Roller for Face, Eyes, and Body
BeautyBio Nordstrom.com
$85
It may seem sacrilegious, but metal face rollers have some special benefits. This cryo roller from BeautyBio is made of stainless steel that cools down to 45°F (i.e. 7°C), which is an ideal temperature for seriously soothing and cooling down the skin without shocking it with cold. Just keep it in the fridge, and use it in the morning as a wonderful de-puffing treatment. It’s sold at Nordstrom, Sephora, Amazon, and Ulta.
Choosing the Best Type of Facial Roller for You
Jade facial rollers are the originals of the bunch, but every year, facial rollers made of more and more materials are added to the shelves at our favorite beauty shops. These are the most common types of facial rollers and how they compare to one another.
Jade Roller
Jade is by far the most ubiquitous, and for a good reason. It’s affordable compared to other stones, but it’s still quite luxurious. It’s smooth, and it keeps a cold texture for a good long while. It also looks very pretty, and in Asian cultures, it’s believed to bring good fortune.
Those who believe that crystals have healing properties say that jade is a cleansing stone that helps with detoxification and also promotes calmness and self-acceptance.
Rose Quartz Roller
Rose quartz rollers are almost as popular as jade rollers, thanks to their lovely pink stone. Rose quartz can do an even better job of retaining a cool temperature when compared to jade, and it can be polished to have an even smoother surface. Because of that, we think it’s a nice choice if you have extremely sensitive skin. However, unlike jade, it’s a little less durable and more likely to break should you drop it.
The rose quartz is closely associated with love, comfort, and restoring harmony, so it’s a wonderful choice if you want a little more of that in your life.
Amethyst Roller
Amethyst is a beautiful type of quartz that makes for a stunning face roller. It has similar physical properties to quartz, but it’s a bit more expensive and luxurious. We associate purple with royalty, so you’re sure to feel like a queen when using an amethyst face roller.
From a crystal healing perspective, amethyst is said to have purifying and protective effects. It’s often associated with sobriety, inner peace, balance, and stress-relief.
Other Materials
New stones and materials are constantly used as brands try to differentiate themselves in the face roller market.
- Metals are especially popular amongst Western brands because they’re easy to shape and sterilize, and like crystals, they also do a fine job of staying cool. In some cases, they can even retain extreme cold (like the BeautyBio cryo roller, for example).
- There are also many rollers that are combined with other components like vibrating motors or electric currents that supposedly offer a better massage or additional anti-aging effects. They can be made of metal, but we’ve also seen combinations like this with crystal face rollers.
- Finally, there are also face rollers made with other gemstones, including black obsidian, a stone that retains heat and is great for a warm facial massage, and blue aventurine, a stone of strength said to help promote inner growth, discipline, and calmness.
How Much Should You Spend on Face Rollers?
Jade rollers (and face rollers in general) usually range in price from $10 for the affordable budget options up to $60 for luxury options.
If all you want is a no-frills face-firming massage, the budget face rollers are a fine choice. They’re as smooth and cooling as their more expensive counterparts, and the stones are likely authentic (although they’re not always sourced in a transparent manner).
However, unlike luxury options, budget face rollers sometimes have minor construction issues. The stones may squeak as they roll over the skin, and quality control can be worse, so you’re more likely to receive a chipped or defective product.
There is less gambling involved when it comes to luxury jade rollers. The rollers will usually feel heftier in your hands, and all parts will come together seamlessly, so there is no squealing or another issue. Additionally, they’re often incredibly beautifully designed, and they’ll just feel a little more luxe.
However, no matter how much money you have to spend, you can’t go wrong with a face roller. Your skin will thank you no matter what!
