Why was Justified cancelled? ›

The decision to end the show was primarily based on lead actor Timothy Olyphant and series developer Graham Yost. FX network president John Landgraf said, "They [Olyphant and Yost] felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be best served by six seasons instead of seven.

When so much on TV falls into one box or another, Justified makes its own way. This has one of the strongest casts on television. Many of the recurring actors were written for only a few episodes. Then, they created such dynamic characters, they have been brought back time and again.

It's been a year since Justified made a TV comeback with the revival Justified: City Primeval, and despite praise from fans and critics, there has been no news about another return for Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins).

Raylan Givens is a fictional character created by American novelist and screenwriter Elmore Leonard. Givens is a Deputy U.S. Marshal and initially appeared in the novels Pronto and Riding the Rap. (Pronto was adapted as a TV movie in 1997 with James LeGros as Givens.)

The Justified production team filmed across two distinct regions: Pennsylvania and California. Pittsburgh, Kittanning, Washington, and Pennsylvania provided the setting for the pilot episode, while California served as the backdrop for the remaining 38 episodes.

Following the villain's violent death in the series finale, City Primeval closed out by returning to the Boyd who started it all: Boyd Crowder, Raylan's old friend turned foe — turned friend and foe and back again.

Though you can watch Justified on other streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, it's not free — you'll pay $2.99 to buy an individual episode and around $10 to buy a single season.

Justified season 2 is heralded as the moment the series truly came into its own. This season introduces viewers to the Bennett family, with Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale), the best character introduced after Justified season 1, at its helm.

Meanwhile, Raylan returned to the U.S. Marshal's Miami office to be with his toddler daughter Willa. On the downside, he didn't wind up marrying his ex-wife Winona. After Raylan finds Ava in Lebec, she begs him not to tell Boyd about his son. The last thing she needs is the son following in daddy's footsteps.

He kills Marcos and arrests a nearby Theo Tonin, who was waiting for Marcos to bring Picker to him. Raylan and Art learn that Picker implicated Jerry Barkley as the man who let Augustine die, only for Raylan to confess the truth to Art. Art punches Raylan after he confesses.

Release. Justified: City Primeval had its world premiere on the opening night of the 12th ATX Television Festival on June 1, 2023. It debuted FX on July 18, 2023, with the first two episodes. The series began streaming on Star on Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand beginning July 19.

Raylan's originally from Harlan County, Kentucky

Photo by jonahtheg/Flickr. Harlan County is situated in the southeast of Kentucky, about a 2.5-hour drive out of Lexington, and its county seat is Harlan, which has a population of only 1,745. In the show, this small town is a hotbed of criminal activity and intrigue.

And what Raylan gives him is what he's always wanted, which is an acknowledgment that Boyd did love her, and that their relationship, his relationship with Raylan, was more than just adversarial, that they dug coal together, and that is a metaphor for the fact that they have lived this violent life together.

Winona soon leaves Lexington in order for her and Raylan's unborn child to have a better life and not be endangered by the dangers of Raylan's career, and begins to live with her sister Gayle until the baby is born.

Since the end of Justified, Olyphant has starred in films such as Mother's Day, Snowden (both 2016), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), and Amsterdam (2022).

The original Justified is one of my favorite shows of all-time. I wasn't expecting Justified: City Primeval to be as good as the original (not much is) but I was hoping it would be good enough and it absolutely was. It did not disappoint.
