Hocus Pocus Celebrates 30th Anniversary

That isn't the only anniversary action that Disney has planned for Hocus Pocus. On October 7th, Salem's historic Hawthorne Hotel will play host to a party with a Sanderson Sisters theme. The official Disney fan club is hosting a Halloween costume partythat would make Master Devil and Medusa Lady (played by Garry and Penny Marshall in the original movie) proud. People who purchase tickets can expect live music, fun food offerings, diabolical drinks, and other surprises. The women of the hour will even be in attendance for this Hocus Pocus party in a witchy setting.

But, before the fans take over the night, attendees can look forward to a guided walking tour of Salem. During that event, visitors can see the city's historic landmarks and locations from Hocus Pocus; filming. Here's how Disney describes the fun: "Thirty years ago, the Black Flame Candle was ignited by an unsuspecting group of kids, inadvertently unleashing Halloween havoc and hilarity on the storied city of Salem, Massachusetts. Three sinister sisters with talents of unfathomable magic (and questionable teamwork skills) mounted brooms, mops, and vacuums in a dastardly plot to retain eternal youth. Their plans may have been foiled, but as any great witch knows, the strongest magic always has a special way of coming back…"

Will There Be A Hocus Pocus 3?

All signs point to a Hocus Pocus 3. However, there's been no official announcement yet. Doug Jones's Billy Butcherson will hopefully be in attendance for that one as well. The actor spoke to Collider about getting to reunitewith the famous trio of witches. It sounds like getting the band back together was a dream for everyone involved.

"When that call came, I was excited to get to do all of that again. I got to reunite with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, which was so dreamy," Jones explained. "The difference between 30 years, working with them, is that I was starstruck the first time. I was such a huge fan of Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who had doneThe Kathy & Mo ShowandSister Act, at that time. They were all huge, in my world. I was just like, 'I can't believe I'm on the same set with these people. Oh, my gosh!'"

"Coming back, you never lose your starstruck-ness, really, or I don't. I was still like, 'Oh, my gosh, there they are again.' But now, with the 30 years that have passed, my career has gone places, and thankfully, I've been very blessed with what's happened in my life, that they were treating me, and we were interacting more as peers," he added. "That was a big difference that I noticed, and was very happy about. We're all 30 years older, and have matured and come through a lot of life in that time, so there was a lot to chat about on set. It was really quite lovely."

Hocus Pocus Returns to Theaters (2024)

What went wrong with Hocus Pocus 2? ›

The choice of one of the songs fell flat (especially with kids, the target audience, who found it cringy, and with returning fans who noticed the rehashing of some musical elements). Overall, the main 2 problems were that the Sanderson sisters no longer felt like a threat and that the story was boring and incomplete.

Was Hocus Pocus a flop when it came out? ›

The film was released in North America on July 16, 1993, by Walt Disney Pictures. Upon its original release, it received mixed reviews from critics and was initially a box-office bomb, possibly losing Disney around $16.5 million during its theatrical run.

Does Hocus Pocus 2 have cuss words? ›

The movie is very clean with little to no language, sex, or nudity.

What was Winifred Sanderson's famous line? ›

Or maybe you'll settle for adding Winifred Sanderson's “I Put a Spell on You,” to your Halloween playlist after you watch both movies for the umpteenth time. Either way, take advantage of another glorious morning to brush up on the most iconic sayings from your favorite Halloween film.

What is the virgin quote Hocus Pocus? ›

Who is the boy at the beginning of Hocus Pocus? ›

Omri Katz as Maximillian "Max" Dennison

Just like Sean, Omri was only a teen (17 years old to be exact) when he was cast as Max Dennison in Hocus Pocus. Even though it seems early for an actor to start his career, Omri actually started acting when he was seven as John Ross Ewing in the TV series Dallas.

Where was the original Hocus Pocus filmed? ›

Most of the 1993 cult classic was filmed on location in Salem, Mass., and you can even visit many of the historic sites today. While it's a treat to watch all year long, Halloween is the perfect time to revisit Hocus Pocus, the subtly spooky tale of three 1600s Salem witches who respawn in the modern world.

Why is Hocus Pocus not appropriate? ›

The issue is that the PG rating is too low for what the movie contains. It views more like a PG-13. While the Halloween violence is minimal, there are numerous sexual innuendos in this movie that are shocking for a movie that seems to be aimed for kids.

Why is Hocus Pocus 2 inappropriate? ›

Parents need to know that Hocus Pocus 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to Disney's hugely popular 1990s fantasy comedy Hocus Pocus. Like the original, the witchy sequel is family-friendly overall but does have magical violence, name-calling, and gross-out scenes, mostly involving a decapitated zombie.

Does Hocus Pocus 2 mention virgins? ›

A young boy in the crowd, dressed as a pirate, asks, "What's a virgin?" Gilbert is surprised by the question and everyone murmurs. "That is a — uhh — a person who has never . . . lit a candle," he finally says, sending the children into a fit of snickering.
